Nettop Publishing's Blog
Joomla 1.6 was released on January 10, 2011. With Joomla 1.5.22 being such a robust platform with great support by hundreds of companies who produce thousands of Modules/PlugIns, the question is rightfully asked, "When is the right time to upgrade/migrate one's site to Joomla 1.6?" This is a great question. From my perspective, the key will be when the support Modules that we utilize are 1.6 compliant...that will be the time to migrate sites from 1.5.22 to 1.6.
Three of the key products we use are:
- Community Builder
- DocMan
- JEvents
There are also many other plugins/modules used as well, but are less critical in their role in most of our sites.
Community Builder and DocMan are 1.6 compliant, but Jevents is not quite there yet. Therefore, we will either wait for JEvents to get their 1.6 version, or we will find an alternate calendar module soon. We are nearly ready to make the switch...please stay tuned.
We have explored several of the Content Management Systems for website development and have found the features of Joomla to meet and exceed our needs & expectations. Joomla runs with a fairly light core and allows for an individual account to be set with the appropriate types of modules and plugins to make the website sizzle. Want a BLOG, no problem. How about a User Management System, a Document Management System or uploading a video? All of these are no problem for Joomla to handle.
Since Joomla is an Open Source Platform, it is always under development by the users. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements on this site of sofware we are now using for our customers.
BLOG's Are A Useful Website Tool To Communicate
Written by Tim SnellingsWe have found it very helpful for our client's to have the opportunity for have a BLOG on their website. It is a way for the company to communicate with their customers or potential customers. Since people can subscribe to your BLOG, the information shows up quite quickly for them. It also allows a history of information that can be reviewed and archived for future use.
Sometimes, information is posted daily or many times per day. Other times, it is appropriate to post once per week. This is dependent on your business model and business/client needs.
